O’Melveny’s Involvement in Superman Copyright Case Noted in Several Media OutletsApril 18, 2012
O’Melveny & Myers secured a victory for DC Comics as a Ninth Circuit judge ruled in favor of releasing previously confidential documents related to Marc Toberoff’s relationship with the estates of Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster over copyright matters. The update on the long-running case was noted in Bloomberg BNA, Thomson Reuters News & Insight, the Daily Journal, Law360, The Recorder, and Blastr.com. The articles detailed the background on the case in which Toberoff and his corporate entities, including Pacific Pictures Corp., voluntarily turned over unredacted documents to federal investigators, therefore giving up any attorney-client privilege protecting them. DC Comics is represented by Matthew Kline, Daniel Petrocelli, and Cassandra Seto of O'Melveny.
The case is Pacific Pictures Corp. et al. v U.S. District Court for the Central District of California et al., case number 11-71844, in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
