O’Melveny’s Jih Quoted on Consumer Privacy Laws in LA Times

The May 8, 2012, Los Angeles Times article, “What The Myspace Settlement Means for You,” talks about a recent Federal Trade Commission settlement with the social media site to protect user privacy. O’Melveny & Myers partner Victor Jih commented on the potential good and bad outcomes from this settlement. While it does bring the importance of protecting consumer privacy to the national stage, Jih said in the article, “the real impact is rewritten privacy policies.” He recommends that consumers be extra diligent about reading the policies on what they’re signing up for, but acknowledges that longer policies could be hard for the consumer to understand, Jih said in the article.
