O’Melveny’s Karr Quoted in Daily Journal on Highly Anticipated Decision in California Wage-and-Hour Case

April 09, 2012 O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner Adam Karr is quoted in the April 9, 2012, Daily Journal article, “State justices are ready to weigh in on major employment issues.” The article concerns the California Supreme Court’s upcoming decision in Brinker v. Superior Court. According to the article, court is expected to rule on whether workers should receive a second break if their first one comes early in the shift, as well as on the statewide standard for providing breaks and the question of when to certify a class.

Karr, a member of O’Melveny’s Labor and Employment Practice, told the Daily Journal that he hopes the court will issue a clear opinion employers can follow, as many employers are currently unsure about the law relating to meal-and-rest breaks. "I think all employers are hoping that the California Supreme Court will give a decision that will be clear and give everyone guidance based on what they have to do as employers," Karr said. "Every client I have is waiting on the edge of their seats to see how this decision will come down."

Karr resides in O’Melveny’s Newport Beach office.
