O’Melveny’s Kassinger Quoted in Reuters on Light Oil Exports

December 30, 2014 O’Melveny & Myers partner Ted Kassinger was quoted in the December 30, 2014, Reuters article, “US Agency Gives Quiet Nod to Light Oil Exports - Sources.”  Reuters reports in the piece that the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has informally suggested that companies export a lightly processed form of crude oil, known as "processed condensate," through self-classification, which enables companies to export their product without formal authorization.

"I would not characterize BIS’s position necessarily as one of encouragement, but BIS has made clear that companies should not overlook the option of self-classification," Kassinger told the publication.  As the article notes, Kassinger advised oil producer Pioneer Natural Resources in its dealings with the BIS.

Kassinger is a member of O’Melveny’s Integrated Legal Strategies Practice and resides in the Firm’s Washington, DC office.
