O’Melveny’s Kassinger Quoted in Reuters on Oil Exports to Europe

February 04, 2014 O’Melveny & Myers partner Theodore Kassinger was quoted in a recent Reuters article, titled “US Opens Taps, a Bit, on Oil Exports to Europe.”  The February 4, 2014, article discusses the US government’s authorization of limited crude oil exports to Europe for the first time in years.  Only a handful of licenses have been regularly approved over the past decade, with European countries rarely appearing on the list, according to the article.  Kassinger, who previously served as the deputy secretary and general counsel of the Department of Commerce, told the publication that the bureau likely stuck to existing provisions to allow exports to Europe.  “The licenses were likely within the confines of the current law and so they may have involved re-exports of foreign-origin oil,” Kassinger told the publication.

Kassinger is a member of O'Melveny's Integrated Legal Strategies Practice, and resides in the Firm’s Washington, DC office.
