O’Melveny’s Lash Authors Article on New Pro Bono Paradigm

October 04, 2015 O’Melveny & Myers’ Managing Counsel for Pro Bono, David Lash, co-authored an article for Dialogue, titled “Having an IMPACT: A New Pro Bono Paradigm.” In it, Lash and Albert Wallis of Brown Rudnick discuss the growth of a collaborative pro bono program called IMPACT, which connects major American law firms involved in the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCo) to make a substantive difference for those who need legal help. The article talks about IMPACT’s origins after meetings with Vice President Joe Biden in the White House. The talks recognized “that the recession and its aftermath severely hampered the ability of legal aid programs to expand services at a time when the need for those services was growing, [so] APBCo proposed that its member firms would go into their communities, assemble legal aid organizations and other key stakeholders, identify the most serious unmet or under-met legal needs, assess the ability of pro bono attorneys to provide assistance, and then find the resources to launch the efforts themselves.”
