O’Melveny’s Olson Featured in Caixin Q&A

April 28, 2014

O’Melveny & Myers partner Steve Olson was interviewed for an April 28, 2014, Caixin Q&A feature.  In the piece, Olson discussed the importance of public relations and other key issues surrounding Chinese investment in the US.

When asked how Chinese companies can create a better image for themselves in front of the US government and regulators, Olson said that “Chinese companies shouldn’t look to the White House or Congress to create a good image – they need to tell their story to the ordinary US people.  The government officials will be positively influenced in turn. US Politics starts from the bottom-up…investors who come to the US tend to discover that their best allies come from the local communities.”

Olson also discussed other issues related to Chinese investment in the US including the role of politics in Chinese M&A deals, the media’s criticism of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) for lacking transparency in its review process, and advice for Chinese companies facing CFIUS.

Olson resides in the Firm’s Washington, DC office and is a member of O’Melveny’s White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice and Business Trial and Litigation Practice.
