O’Melveny’s Li Quoted in The Asian Lawyer on Shanghai Bar's Outreach to Foreign Lawyers

October 01, 2012

Qiang Li, managing partner of O’Melveny & Myers LLP's Shanghai office, was quoted in The Asian Lawyer's October 1, 2012, article “Chinese Bar Group that Once Railed Against Foreign Firms Now Welcomes Them.” The article discusses the changing attitudes toward foreign lawyers in Shanghai, as seen in the Shanghai Bar Association’s new policy of admitting foreign lawyers as special members. The Asian Lawyer notes that membership invitations were sent out to 14 international firms, including O’Melveny. "I think the mutual dislike is not there anymore," Li said. "Chinese firms realize that international firms are not going to come to the mainland and set up offices with 1,000 lawyers, so they don’t feel as threatened."
