January 13, 2012

O’Melveny & Myers LLP is representing two individuals and the UNITED SIKHS in connection with two separate petitions before the UN Human Rights Committee (UNHRC). With the first case, the UNHRC concluded that the religious freedom of Firm client Ranjit Singh was violated by the country of France when he was asked to remove his turban for an ID picture. “We are very pleased with the views that the Committee adopted and we welcome France's compliance with these findings. We also look forward to a similar resolution for Shingara Singh, whose case is still pending before the Committee," the O’Melveny team said in a statement. Details of the case were reported by several media outlets including Punjab Newsline, Barron’s, Yahoo! News, and the Sacramento Bee.

UNITED SIKHS is a UN-affiliated, international non-profit, non-governmental, humanitarian relief, human development, and advocacy organization, aimed at empowering those in need, especially disadvantaged and minority communities across the world.
