O’Melveny’s Rochelle Karr Quoted in Law360 on O’Melveny’s Parent-Friendly Policies and Programs

October 31, 2013 O’Melveny & Myers’ Director of Attorney Professional Development and Alumni Relations Rochelle Karr was quoted in an October 30, 2013, Law360 article.  The piece, titled “BigLaw Shores Up Leave Policies To Retain Talent,” discusses the recent trend of large US firms adding more flexibility to maternity and other leave policies in order to recruit and maintain top talent.  The article outlines some of O’Melveny’s women- and parent-friendly policies and programs including a pro rata pay system for those working on a reduced workload program and a subsidized, full-time day care for the Los Angeles office.  Karr describes the importance of these programs at O’Melveny, calling this type of flexibility “even more imperative” in the face of an economic downturn.  “We look at feedback across the industry… about what people are asking for, and that’s flexibility,” she told the publication, adding "our clients since the downturn are more than ever looking for law firms that have continuity in their teams and lower turnover.”
