O’Melveny’s Ron Cheng Quoted by MLex on New Money Laundering Rules

May 09, 2016

The May 9, 2016 issue of MLex quoted O’Melveny partner Ron Cheng in the article “New Rules To Fight Money Laundering, Corruption Will Help US Probes in Asia, Say Analysts.” The article examines how proposed US laws and regulations to fight money laundering, corruption, kleptocracy and tax evasion may affect US investigations of such crimes in Asia. Cheng told MLex: “These additional measures may be seen as a sign of the US commitment to pursuing kleptocracy. That commitment is likely to mesh to some extent with the Chinese government’s own efforts to seek the arrest, prosecution and return of corrupt officials and the seizure of their tainted assets.”

Ron Cheng handles both anti-corruption and data privacy matters and resides in O’Melveny’s Hong Kong and Los Angeles offices.
