O’Melveny’s Siegel Featured in Law360 as Employment MVP

December 09, 2013

O’Melveny & Myers partner Bob Siegel was profiled in Law360 as an Employment MVP for 2013.  The December 6, 2013, feature highlights his representation of US Airways Group Inc. executives on labor matters amid its US$11 billion merger with American Airlines Inc.

"The end result was a collective bargaining agreement that will enable the new American Airlines to have long-term stability and competitiveness in its labor costs, and to avoid much of the labor relations problems that have plagued other airline mergers," Siegel told Law360, calling these developments “essential to the ultimate decision that a merger with US Airways was the best path forward for American."

As the article reports, Siegel represented US Airways in a variety of other litigation matters this year, including a First Circuit win in a proposed class action filed by skycaps who alleged that a fee instituted by the airline caused travelers to reduce or forego tips to skycaps.  "We argued to the district court, and it was affirmed in the First Circuit that common law claims affecting services are preempted by the Airline Deregulation Act," he explained in the article.

Siegel is a member of O'Melveny's Labor and Employment Practice and resides in the Firm’s Los Angeles office.
