O’Melveny’s Williamson Quoted in Law360 on SoCal’s Rise as Patent Venue

December 03, 2013

O’Melveny & Myers partner Brett Williamson was quoted in a December 2, 2013, Law360 article, titled “SoCal Gains Traction As Hot Spot For Patent Case.”  The piece focuses on a federal pilot program launched two years ago in order to increase the efficiency of complex patent litigation by allocating patent cases to judges who have interest and experience in them.  Since the program’s launch, 10 cases have been transferred from the Western and Eastern divisions to the Southern Division, and the two participating Southern Division judges were assigned about 60 percent of all new patent cases in the Southern Division, according to the article.

“The region’s technology sector has helped develop a sophisticated group of experienced patent lawyers as well as judges, and the addition of the pilot program will raise the profile of the Southern Division as an attractive venue for patent cases,” Williamson said.

Williamson is a founding member of O’Melveny’s Intellectual Property and Technology Practice within the Litigation Department, and resides in the Firm’s Newport Beach office.
