Raij Discusses Development Deal for ATL Braves Training Facility in Law360

September 22, 2017

In a September 20, 2017, article, Law360 detailed O’Melveny’s representation of the West Villages Improvement District (WVID) in the negotiation of a development agreement for a US$100 million spring training facility for the Atlanta Braves in Sarasota County, Florida.

Partner Irwin Raij, who led O’Melveny’s New York-based team representing WVID, told Law360 that the deal for the new facility had been in the works for more than a year.

“It’s complex. There are multiple government entities...each of which have different political obligations and responsibilities,” Raij said.

According to the article, the public-private partnership for the new facility includes multiple entities, including the City of North Port, Sarasota County, the State of Florida, Mattamy, and the Atlanta Braves, along with WVID.

In addition to Raij, who is co-chair of O’Melveny’s Sports Business Group, the team also includes partner Dan Cantor, who focuses on commercial litigation, counsel Alexander Chester, who advises on sports industry deals, and transactions associate Daryl Steiger.
