Reynolds Discusses Autonomous Vehicles in Quartz

September 20, 2016

O’Melveny counsel Michael Reynolds was quoted in the September 20, 2016, Quartz article “How Florida Became the Most Important State in the Race to Legalize Self-Driving Cars.”

“A lot of states haven’t even addressed [autonomous vehicles],” Reynolds told Quartz. “People look at that and say, ‘Well, if they don’t explicitly prohibit it then it’s not illegal.”

As he explained to Quartz, while those states may have more opportunities when it comes to autonomous vehicles, it remains unclear how judges would apply current driving laws.

“It’s hard to say what would happen,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds, who is based in LA, represents companies in a variety of complex civil matters, including insurance coverage disputes, environmental and mass tort litigation, class actions, and data breach and privacy issues.
