The Athletic: How Chadwick Boseman Went From Baseball Novice to Channeling Jackie Robinson

O’Melveny litigation associate David Iden is quoted in this article about his experience helping actor Chadwick Boseman prepare for his role in the movie “42,” based on the life and career of Jackie Robinson.

Iden, a former actor and professional baseball player, reflected on the memories he shared with Boseman in the seven months they spent filming together in California and Tennessee. Boseman died recently at the age of 43 after a battle with colon cancer. “To pass away on Jackie Robinson Day, it’s some sort of cosmic I-don’t-know-what,” Iden told The Athletic. “He lived an incredible life.”

“He got his start by portraying someone who was an icon, who broke cultural barriers,” Iden said. “That was just the beginning of Chadwick’s path to becoming an icon in his own right.”
