The Buffalo News: State Contracts with Two Firms for Bills Stadium Negotiations

September 29, 2021

The Hochul administration has turned to O’Melveny & Myers LLP to help negotiate plans to build a new stadium for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, NY. O’Melveny, a firm that has a long-standing sports sector and advised on the Dodgers move from Brooklyn to Los Angeles back in the 1950’s, “will provide legal advice for the state, which is negotiating with the Bills and Erie County over who pays how much for the new stadium.” Irwin Raij, a Manhattan-based attorney, is “uniquely qualified for the contract signed with his law firm because of his experience representing the state in talks with the Bills’ stadium renovation and lease extension negotiations a decade ago,” the publication wrote, “he will provide targeted specific advice to the state during the talks, noting his range of experience on pro sports matters.” It is also noted that Raij owns a stake in a minor league baseball team and a major league soccer club.
