The Houston Chronicle: The Latest Shortage in Texas: Lawyers

October 24, 2021

The Texas legal hiring market has become red hot and the shortage of corporate lawyers has led to an influx of out-of-state firms opening offices in the Lone Star state. “As with all shortages, the cause is a matter of supply not keeping up with demand. Business for corporate law firms has surged with a booming economy, fueled by low-interest rates. cheap money, and trillions of dollars in federal spending,” the publication noted. “Mergers and acquisitions involving Texas businesses are up 31 percent so far over the past year and deal making in the third quarter of 2021 reached its highest numbers since 2014.” O’Melveny & Myers LLP is a recent example of the growing number of law firms in Texas, opening offices in both Dallas and Austin in June. This story originally appeared in The Texas Lawbook.
