May 18, 2021

The US Patent and Trademark Office’s Tim Fink has joined O’Melveny as a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office, this article reported.

At the USPTO, Fink served as Special Advisor to the Director and Vice Chief Judge of the Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board. “Tim brings the top-notch legal and technical skill set that our IP clients are seeking,” firm chair Brad Butwin said. “His impressive record of managing large teams and highly complex policy issues exemplifies his exceptional leadership qualities.”

“O’Melveny was just a natural fit for me,” Fink commented, emphasizing his eagerness to join a firm looking to grow its PTAB expertise. He added that his experience there and with the USPTO overall gives him “a complete picture of all of the policy considerations that go into patent litigation,” and allows him to help clients “navigate two or three tribunals at the same time, in ways that make the most sense,” he added.
