The US Senate confirmed former O’Melveny chair Arthur B. Culvahouse as US Ambassador to Australia. Known for his extensive government experience, Culvahouse “enjoys strong bipartisan support as an astute and steady operative.” He served under Senator Howard Baker during Watergate, as White House Counsel for President Ronald Reagan during the Iran-Contra affair, and led the Republican vice presidential vetting process in 2008 and 2016.
Culvahouse has said that the relationship between the US and Australia is “strategically critical,” emphasizing support for the alliance between the US, Australia, Japan and India.
