Virginia activists are challenging four state laws that restrict abortion. These attempt to limit access through strict clinic licensing standards, required pre-abortion ultrasounds, and allowing only doctors to perform the procedure.
O’Melveny partner Sean Trainor represents the plaintiffs, a coalition of abortion rights groups including the Center for Reproductive Rights, the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood and several abortion clinics across the state, in the matter. The federal trial opened with Trainor questioning an Oregon abortion provider Mark Nichols about the safety of the procedure. “It is one of the safest medical procedures that exists,” said Nichols.
