National Public Radio’s WCNY: Lawsuit Challenging New York’s Gender ID Options is Poised to Break the Binary

O’Melveny partner Hannah Chanoine discusses a lawsuit filed by O’Melveny and Lambda Legal on behalf of a nonbinary transgender New York resident who is seeking a New York driver’s license that reflects their nonbinary gender identity in this radio segment.

“In some ways this case is about something that the rest of us take for granted,” says Chanoine. “We strongly believe that the policy of the DMV to preclude the non-binary gender marker is a violation of the New York Human Rights Law which broadly protects individuals from burdens on their places of public accommodation.”
