December 01, 2016

NEW YORK—December 1, 2016—At its 20th anniversary gala, Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) honored O’Melveny with the Partners in Justice Award for its pro bono work with Brooklyn residents. Kevin Snover also was recognized with the Founders Award at the November 17, 2016, event.

O’Melveny has worked with BDS on a number of pro bono matters ranging from family law matters to criminal defense cases. O’Melveny has aided BDS in defending the pre-trial rights of criminal defendants, immigration cases, and child neglect matters. O’Melveny lawyers Matthew Murphy, Nate Asher, Joannah Caneda, and Jack Nolan accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

“BDS provides excellent representation for people during the worst moments of their lives,” said Lisa Schreibersdorf, executive director of BDS. “The clients we meet want an honest answer about their situation and someone who will fight for them and their rights.”

BDS strives to ensure pro bono partnerships leverage resources and provide critical support for our clients in and out of the courtroom to ensure our clients obtain the best result possible in court and, hopefully, a better outcome in their lives. BDS regularly partners with New York City’s major law firms, corporations, and other members of the private bar on numerous cases from all of our practice areas. The pro bono partners have worked on individual cases, filed complaints in federal courts, co-authored amicus briefs, co-counseled hearings, filed and argued appeals, and conducted research on novel areas of law.
