CENTURY CITY, CALIFORNIA ─ JANUARY 18, 2011 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP Partner Carla Christofferson has been named Litigator of the Year by the Century City Bar Association. Christofferson is Managing Partner of O’Melveny’s Los Angeles office and a member of the Business Trial and Litigation Practice.

Louis R. Dienes, President of the Century City Bar Association, said that by virtue of her professional achievements and community contributions, Christofferson has earned a place among a distinguished group of practitioners in the Los Angeles area who are “the most accomplished lawyers in their respective fields of expertise [as well as] leaders in Southern California’s law and business community.”

During her 20-year career, Christofferson has been listed among California’s top lawyers by several publications and has received numerous awards for her community service. Currently she manages O’Melveny’s largest office while maintaining a successful litigation practice in which she represents a number of leading corporations.  Among her previous leadership roles at O'Melveny, Christofferson has served on the Firm’s policy committee, as the national hiring partner, and as the talent development partner.  In 2005, she received an O’Melveny Values Award for exemplifying the ideals of excellence, leadership, and citizenship.

Christofferson has an equally high profile throughout the city. She is the co-owner of the Los Angeles Sparks WNBA franchise. An inspiring and dynamic public speaker, Christofferson is often invited to address gatherings of business groups and community organizations. She also serves as a board member of several nonprofit organizations, including the Los Angeles Library Foundation.

“Being part of O’Melveny, which has such an amazing history in greater Los Angeles, has time and again provided me with the opportunities to make a difference for the Firm’s clients here and the community in general,” Christofferson said. “It’s an honor to receive an award for something that I already feel so privileged to be doing from such a fantastic organization as the Century City Bar Association, which provides Century City lawyers with a sense of community and the opportunity to learn from each other.”

Christofferson will receive the Litigator of the Year award at the Century City Bar Association’s 43rd Annual Installation Banquet, held March 1 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. The awards, which also will recognize four additional lawyers for exceptional contributions to the legal profession, were chosen by a panel of peer lawyers.

O’Melveny has a long history with the bar association.  Rick Ross, who is of counsel in the Firm's Century City office and a former partner in the Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice, was the Century City Bar Association’s president from 2001-2002 and co-chaired its Entertainment Symposium in 2010.  The association also has honored a number of O’Melveny partners over the years: Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice Chair Joseph Calabrese was Entertainment Lawyer of the Year in 2009; Business Trial and Litigation Practice Group Chair Daniel Petrocelli was Litigator of the Year in 2003; and partner Christopher Murray, a former Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice chair, was named Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year in 2001.
