Daily Journal Names Drummond Hansen a 2019 “Top Artificial Intelligence Lawyer”

SILICON VALLEY—June 28, 2019—Daily Journal has named O’Melveny partner Melody Drummond Hansen a 2019 “Top Artificial Intelligence Lawyer.” Drummond Hansen was among only 20 lawyers selected for the recognition.

In its profile of Drummond Hansen, chair of O’Melveny’s Automated & Connected Vehicles Industry Group, the Daily Journal observed that she “thrives at the intersection of technology and law,” citing her work advising on cutting-edge technologies, including voice recognition and automated cars.

“AI is unavoidable,” she told the Daily Journal. “It is a huge part of the future of technology, so I’m always interested in where technology is headed and how to anticipate the needs that technology companies will have based on that.”

She also is interested in the social justice questions around the emerging technology. “They’re not only important questions because of the ethics and justice implications of AI,” she said, “but also for advising clients on the best way to develop and make sure that AI is being developed in a responsible way and that we’ll have socially beneficial outcomes and not unintended negative outcomes, including for diverse and vulnerable communities.”
