Daily Journal Names O’Melveny’s Amdursky, Chopra, and Vergara Top Labor & Employment Lawyers

LOS ANGELES—July 19, 2017—Daily Journal named O’Melveny partners Eric Amdursky, Apalla Chopra, and Catalina Vergara as Top Labor & Employment Lawyers.

Daily Journal highlighted Amdursky’s broad practice working with clients as diverse as Yahoo, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, and Starz Entertainment on matters ranging from trade secret misappropriation to employment disputes. “It can be a very exciting practice,” Amdursky, who is the managing partner of O’Melveny’s Silicon Valley office, told the publication.

Chopra, who chairs O’Melveny’s labor and employment practice, “tailors litigation strategies to deal with the trends she spots,” Daily Journal noted. The publication cited as an example her representation of a major entertainment company facing a wage and hour dispute filed by employees as a potential representative action under the state Labor Code’s Private Attorneys General Act, where she found “success in an unsettled legal landscape.” Daily Journal also pointed to her work handling litigation over sexual misconduct on college campuses.

Daily Journal singled out Vergara’s ERISA work for Chevron in a potential class action, which she promptly got dismissed, filed by former and current participants in the US$19 billion Chevron Employee Savings Investment Plan. “ERISA is a fascinating area of law, and the plaintiffs bar has been increasingly active in this space,” Vergara said in the article. “The resulting suits against big companies’ 401(k) plans come with potentially astronomical damages. The ERISA statutory scheme can be described as complicated, and there are thorny questions to grapple with.”
