O’Melveny’s Portnoi Named Among Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40

August 10, 2016

San Francisco, CA — August 10, 2016 — O’Melveny counsel Dimitri Portnoi has been named among the Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 for 2016 by the National LGBT Bar Association. Each year, the LGBT Bar recognizes outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) legal professionals under the age of 40 who have “distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.” Dimitri was honored by the LGBT Bar at an awards luncheon on Friday, August 5, 2016 in Washington, DC.

In addition to his work representing commercial clients in a variety of complex business litigation, financial service, water rights and quality, and entertainment matters, Dimitri also dedicates significant time to protecting and increasing the rights of the LGBT community. Notably, Dimitri was part of a team of O’Melveny attorneys who partnered with Lambda Legal in Sevcik v. Sandoval, successfully representing a group of Nevada couples seeking to overturn the State’s ban on same-sex marriage, and has co-authored multiple amicus briefs in important marriage equality cases. Additionally, as co-chair of O’Melveny’s Southern California LGBT Employee Network, he has played an important role in paving the way for the next generation of LGBT lawyers and staff at the firm.

“Dimitri’s passionate commitment to championing the cause of greater equality for LGBT people, and his remarkable skill in bringing about reforms that effect real and lasting change, make him an ideal selection for recognition this year,” said Tara L. Borelli, a senior attorney at Lambda Legal.
