FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES—January 18, 2018—Former General Counsel for the Office of the Inspector General at the US Department of Homeland Security Laurel Loomis Rimon has joined O’Melveny as senior counsel in the White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations and Financial Technology Practices. Rimon will advise clients on anti-money laundering and fintech enforcement issues.
As general counsel for the Office of the Inspector General, Rimon served as primary legal counsel to the Inspector General on criminal and administrative investigations, audits, inspections, and congressional relations.
Rimon has served in a number of other government roles as well. She was an assistant deputy enforcement director for the Office of Enforcement at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, leading complex and sensitive investigations of bank and non-bank subjects, and investigative counsel at the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s Office of Inspector General.
Rimon also has held a number of positions at the US Department of Justice in both the Civil and Criminal divisions, including deputy chief of the Financial Investigations and Litigation Unit, Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section and Assistant US Attorney in the Fraud and Public Corruption Section of the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she successfully handled the money laundering and money transmitting prosecution of “e-gold” enterprise, a novel online digital currency service used to fund various criminal enterprises. As a result of her work on that groundbreaking prosecution and other internet-related cases, she received the Assistant Attorney General’s Award for Outstanding Advocacy in Protecting Citizens from Online Crime.
“Laurel has been on the leading edge of high-profile money laundering and fintech enforcement for years. She brings a huge amount of insider experience and perspective that complements our team and will be a significant advantage to our clients,” said White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Chair Steve Olson. “O’Melveny has a long history of lawyers serving at the highest level of our government and we’re thrilled to welcome Laurel into that group.”
