SINGAPORE, August 6, 2009 -- O’Melveny & Myers announced today that Joel Hogarth, finance and restructuring lawyer, joins the Firm as a partner in its Asia practice.   Hogarth comes to O’Melveny from White & Case, where he focused on complex restructuring and other financial transactions, including bank lending and M&A transactions, and represented distressed investment funds, financial institutions, and corporate groups on high-profile transactions throughout Southeast Asia.  He will reside in the Firm’s Singapore office.

In less than a decade, Hogarth has accumulated an impressive restructuring and distressed investment deal sheet that includes a leading role on the US$14 billion Asia Pulp & Paper restructuring deal, which has been described as among the largest and most complex emerging-market restructurings undertaken in Asia thus far.

"Joel’s arrival helps us build on the already substantial momentum that we have developed in Singapore and the Southeast Asia region,” said Howard Chao, head of the Firm’s Asia practice.  “His experience with numerous complex restructurings and distressed investments as well as M&A transactions is a very good fit for us.  We look forward to having him on board."

A fluent Bahasa-Indonesia speaker, Joel also has extensive experience in restructuring and financial transactions in Indonesia.  Joel’s performance in these and other significant transactions earned him recognition from Chambers Global in 2009 as “one to watch” for both Corporate and Indonesia.  He has also represented corporations in complex restructurings and distressed investment transactions in Hong Kong and Thailand.

“O’Melveny’s Asia restructuring team is first class and is a major player in the Southeast Asian restructuring market,” said Hogarth.  “I am pleased to join this outstanding group and to contribute to this thriving practice.”

Joel received his B.A. with double first class honors from Cambridge University’s Clare College in 1999, prior to earning an L.P.C. from University of Central England in 2000 and an M.A. from Clare College in 2002.  He began his career at White & Case in London in 2000 and transferred to the firm’s Singapore office the following year.  Joel is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales is also admitted to the New York bar.
