WASHINGTON, DC, AND CENTURY CITY -- December 17, 2015 --
O’Melveny & Myers partners Ted Kassinger and Daniel Petrocelli have been named Law360 MVPs in the areas of International Trade and Media and Entertainment, respectively. The annual awards recognize “elite attorneys whose successes in high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals and complex global matters” set them apart from the more than 850 submissions.

Kassinger is recognized for obtaining a key government clearance to enable IBM’s US$2.1 billion sale of its x86 server business to Chinese technology giant Lenovo Group Ltd. and its sale of its global semiconductor business to GlobalFoundries Inc. Apart from his Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States work for IBM and others, Kassinger also was recognized for securing a landmark exception to the U.S. government's nearly 40-year-old ban on crude oil exports for Texas-based Pioneer Natural Resources Co. as it attempted to exempt shipments of ultralight oil known as condensate from the outright ban of crude oil exports installed in 1975.

Petrocelli is described as a “well-known litigator with a slew of high-profile cases under his belt” including the Supreme Court victory for Warner Bros. over the rights to the Superman character, the win for Fox and others in an alleged discrimination suit involving “American Idol,” and his representation of Sirius XM in several cases regarding the alleged infringement of a “performance right” for pre-1972 sound recordings. “If it were just me alone, I wouldn't be able to work on most of these cases,” Petrocelli said in the article. “So, I'm just lucky to have so many great lawyers working at the firm with great expertise, and great commitment to delivering good results for our clients."
