NEW YORK, NY ─ October 26, 2009 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP announced today that Marc Ackerman has joined the Firm as a partner and member of the Intellectual Property and Technology (IP&T) Practice in the Litigation Department, resident in the Firm’s New York office.

Ackerman has a strong track record of successfully handling high-stakes representations, including:  serving as lead counsel for Visa International (now Visa Inc.) in litigation and arbitration involving sponsorship deals related to the World Cup; serving as lead counsel in and out of court on multiple matters for ESPN, the National Hockey League, and the National Football League; handling many advertising-related disputes for Verizon Wireless; and advising entities such as State Street Bank & Trust Company on trademark and copyright issues. A recognized leader in his field, Marc has been named a “Leading Individual, Media and Entertainment (Sports)” by Legal 500 USA from 2007 to 2009, and was described in that publication as “a first class trial attorney.” From 2005 to 2008, he chaired the Sports Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Ackerman obtained his undergraduate degree cum laude from Yale University in 1989 and his J.D. cum laude from New York University Law School in 1992. He began his legal career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore before moving to White & Case in 1997 and joining that firm’s partnership in 2002.
