LONDON -- DECEMBER 21, 2010 -- O'Melveny & Myers LLP has received first-place rankings in several categories measuring diversity levels among firms in the United Kingdom for 2010, in results just released in the 5th Diversity League Table and produced by the Black Solicitors Network.

Overall, O'Melveny achieved the highest score among all international firms participating in the demographic league tables survey and ranked second-highest among all 48 firms. In the rankings related to the numbers of ethnic minority personnel, the Firm ranks first in number of partners, first in trainees, third in ethnic minority associates, and tied for seventh in female trainees.

Analyzing the ethnic partner rankings, the Diversity League Table's editors noted that "given the relatively low levels of diversity within firms located in the City of London… [O'Melveny] should be congratulated on the level of diversity seen amongst its partners." The report also applauds the Firm's cumulative standing as tangible evidence of its strategy and commitment to diversity throughout its ranks. "O'Melveny & Myers LLP also features in the top three in … ethnic minority representation amongst partners and associates--showing that the high levels of trainees are translated into greater representation at higher levels of practice."

"The top rankings O'Melveny achieved in so many areas of the Diversity League Table results are a gratifying reflection of our firmwide efforts to execute our diversity strategy and achieve our goals," said Solomon Wifa, managing partner of the London office of O'Melveny & Myers.  "But the results also show that there's still more work to be done in many areas; and so our mission to recruit, retain, and promote lawyers of all diversity strands in higher numbers continues in earnest."

The Diversity League Table (DLT) is an important management tool and one of the legal profession's leading diversity reporting publications. Looking across four diversity strands of disability, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation, the report offers the diversity profiles of many of the UK's leading firms and Chambers, also ranking them in key areas before compiling the various tables which come together to give the overall DLT.
