WASHINGTON, DC ─ JUNE 15, 2015 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP is pleased to announce that Bimal Patel has rejoined the Firm in the Washington, DC, and New York offices as counsel, head of the Financial Advisory and Regulation Practice, and a member of the Financial Services Practice Group. Patel formerly was a senior advisor to Jeremiah O. Norton, a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Patel represents major financial institutions and funds clients in a variety of regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters. He will focus his practice on banking regulatory work, including advising clients on prudential regulatory matters, resolution and recovery planning, consumer compliance, investigations and enforcement actions arising out of the Dodd-Frank Act, and Dodd-Frank counseling. While at the FDIC, Patel advised Director Norton and the Board of Directors on regulatory policy, supervision matters, resolution planning, and deposit insurance assessments; helped formulate key rulemakings, including implementation of the Basel III Capital Accords and the Volcker Rule; and assisted Director Norton with oversight of enforcement actions in the banking sector.

“Bimal’s return strengthens the Firm’s regulatory capabilities for our deep roster of financial institution clients,” said partner Brian Boyle, co-chair of O’Melveny’s Financial Services Practice. “His broad banking knowledge and understanding of today’s compliance issues and regulatory landscape will be an invaluable asset firmwide.”

“I’m pleased to work once again with the talented lawyers at O’Melveny,” Patel said. “It was a true privilege to serve in government, and I now look forward to combining my government service and private practice experience to assist our banking and financial services clients with the increasingly complex regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters they confront.”

Patel earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, his Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University, and his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He currently serves as an adjunct associate professor at Stanford in Washington, DC, where he teaches an annual course on banking regulation.
