NEW YORK, NY ─ JANUARY 3, 2012 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP again has been selected as one of the top litigation firms in the country by The American Lawyer magazine. The Firm is one of just two firms to have been named a winner, finalist, or honorable mention in the publication’s biennial “Litigation Department of the Year” competition each time the contest has been held. The recognition, and a profile of the O’Melveny & Myers litigation department, are featured in the January 2012 issue of the magazine.

“We are extremely proud that our Litigation Department has been recognized once again as one of the [six] finest in the nation by The American Lawyer,” said O’Melveny Chair-Elect Brad Butwin. “This honor is a fitting tribute to the outstanding achievements of our talented litigators over the past two years on behalf of clients who have entrusted us with their most important and challenging work.”

In the profile of the Firm, titled “Breadth and Depth,” The American Lawyer lauded the tenacity of O’Melveny’s litigation team, comparing the group to an all-purpose SUV. “O’Melveny’s litigation department is like one of those relentless Land Rover vehicles. Regardless of the obstacles in its path, or the bumpy terrain it encounters, the firm’s marquee practice keeps moving ahead,” Senior Writer Susan Beck wrote.

The magazine took special note of O’Melveny’s many high-stakes victories for clients such as American International Group, Inc., Bank of America, and Hertz Corp. “From U.S. Supreme Court victories in cases of constitutional significance, to hard-fought trial wins, to tackling some of the biggest issues facing financial institutions, the firm’s dogged efforts continue to pay off,” said American Lawyer. The profile also includes praise from Firm clients. Said Timothy Mayopoulos, the general counsel of Fannie Mae, which uses O’Melveny for much of its major litigation, “I’m consistently highly impressed with the quality of people, their working style, and the values of the firm. It’s an exceptional group of people.”

Every two years, The American Lawyer invites members of its AmLaw 200 list to submit a report detailing their significant litigation achievements. The magazine conducted interviews with clients and opposing counsel before choosing a winner and five finalists.
