WASHINGTON, DC ─ May 12, 2011 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP has named Washington, DC partner Sri Srinivasan as the Chair of the Appellate Practice Group. Srinivasan, an accomplished Supreme Court advocate, has argued 17 cases before the US Supreme Court. He has also briefed numerous additional cases in the Supreme Court and federal and state courts on a broad array of legal and constitutional issues.

Srinivasan succeeds Walter Dellinger, former Acting Solicitor General of the United States and former head of the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, who has led the practice for more than 10 years and developed it into one of the nation's preeminent appellate practices. Dellinger will continue to practice actively, and Srinivasan will assume the administrative duties of the Practice. Dellinger said “Sri Srinivasan is one of the great advocates of his generation. It has been, and will continue to be, a great honor for me to work with such a gifted lawyer.”

“Throughout the past several years, O'Melveny's Appellate Practice has grown to include a stellar line up of attorneys with diverse appellate experience and Sri played a key role in helping attract the best and brightest,” said partner and firmwide Chair of the Litigation Department Brad Butwin. "We have been fortunate to have Walter’s leadership and we look forward to Sri leading this dynamic and successful group.”

Srinivasan’s recent Supreme Court arguments include Hertz Corp. v. Friend, Skilling v. US, and Carachuri-Rosendo v. Holder, in the 2009 Term.

Srinivasan is a lecturer at Harvard Law School, where he co-teaches a course on Supreme Court and appellate advocacy. In 2008, The National Law Journal named Srinivasan one of the “50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America.” He has been named by Chambers USA, Legal 500 and The Best Lawyers in America as a leading practitioner in the appellate area, and has been named by Lawdragon as one of the leading 500 lawyers in the country in any field.

“I look forward to this new role in connection with the Appellate Practice, and to continuing to work alongside Walter and an amazingly talented group of appellate attorneys,” said Srinivasan. “We've been fortunate to have attained some terrific results for the Firm's clients, and we look forward to continuing to do so.”

The Practice's victories over the last 12 months achieved by lawyers throughout the Firm's offices demonstrate that O'Melveny continues to be one of the elite appellate practices in the nation. Notably, lawyers in the Practice won four cases before the US Supreme Court during the 2009-2010 Term, and filed several amicus curiae briefs in US Supreme Court, including a number of briefs that were specifically cited by the Justices in majority and dissenting opinions. The Practice also secured several significant court of appeals victories this past year for clients such as ACE American Insurance Co., Fannie Mae, Humana Military Healthcare Services, Inc., Johnson & Johnson, and Merck.
