O’Melveny Earns Bank of America Legal Department’s 2017 Diversity and Inclusion Business Council Award
June 01, 2017FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK—June 1, 2017—Bank of America’s Legal Department and its Diversity and Inclusion Business Council (DIBC) honored O’Melveny with their fifth annual law firm diversity and inclusion award. The award recognizes the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and its support of the Bank’s diversity and inclusion goals.
“O’Melveny shares the Bank’s ideals of creating a more inclusive legal profession,” said Amy Littman, Deputy General Counsel and Executive Sponsor of the DIBC. “We’re delighted to honor the firm for making progress with us on these mutual commitments.”
The DIBC’s mission is to foster an equitable and inclusive environment where every employee can feel respected, valued, and culturally enriched; to promote education and awareness; and to recognize the individuality of each person and the strength of our diversity. More than 150 outside law firms completed the DIBC-sponsored diversity and inclusion survey. In selecting O’Melveny for top honors, the Bank highlighted the firm’s commitment to creating diverse legal teams for client matters; its internal culture for recruitment, retention, mentoring, and promoting diverse attorneys; its external outreach with the community; and its direct partnership with the Bank to meet the Bank’s diversity goals and mission.
“Through a host of initiatives including awards such as this, the Bank consistently challenges law firms to improve in diversity and inclusion,” said Bradley J. Butwin, chair of O’Melveny. “We’ve responded to this challenge not only because diversity and inclusion drive our interaction with our clients, our communities, and each other, but also because the bank inspires us to consistently improve in this area. We’re thrilled to receive this year’s Diversity and Inclusion Award.”
In the past year, O’Melveny and the Bank have worked together to assist LGBTQ pro bono clients with asylum cases, help low-income immigrants navigate the complexities of the US citizenship process, and champion veteran hiring. Last week, O’Melveny teamed up with the Bank to fill backpacks with school supplies for orphaned children in Afghanistan.
