WASHINGTON, DC ─ January 18, 2011 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP is pleased to announce that seven new partners will be admitted to the Firm, effective February 1, 2011.  The members of the Firm’s 2011 partner class are:  Allen W. Burton (New York), Brian P. Finnegan (New York), Adam J. Karr (Newport Beach), Elizabeth Lemond McKeen (Newport Beach), Matt D. Powers (San Francisco), Dawn Sestito (Los Angeles), and Eric C. Sibbitt (San Francisco).

Allen W. Burton is a member of the Securities Litigation Practice and resides in the Firm’s New York office.  His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including financial institutions disputes, securities litigation, regulatory investigations, insurance and reinsurance disputes, and mass tort defense.  Burton joined O’Melveny in 2003 after clerking for the Honorable Federico A. Moreno of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.  He received his law degree in 2001 from Fordham University School of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the Fordham Law Review.  Burton received a B.A. from Georgetown University in 1996.

 

Brian P. Finnegan is a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Practice and is resident in O’Melveny’s New York office.  He advises private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in such industries as chemicals, energy, gaming, and financial services in a wide variety of transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, strategic investments, recapitalization, and opportunistic financings.  Before joining O’Melveny in 2002, Finnegan received his law degree from George Washington University Law School in 2001.  He also holds an M.B.A. from National University, received in 1997.  Finnegan earned a B.A. from American University in 1992.

 

Adam J. Karr is a member of the Labor and Employment Practice and resides in the Firm’s Newport Beach office.  He assists employers with employment-related investigations and represents them in a range of labor and employment disputes including wage and hour matters, and non-compete and trade secret litigation, as well as class action and individual employment-related litigation and arbitrations.  Karr joined O’Melveny in 2001 following a clerkship with the Honorable Barbara A. Madsen of the Washington State Supreme Court.  He received a J.D. in 1999 from University of Washington School of Law, where he was Comments Editor of Pacific Rim Law and Policy Journal.  Karr received a B.A. from Washington State University in 1996.

 

Elizabeth Lemond McKeen is a member of the Financial Services Practice and is resident in O’Melveny’s Newport Beach office.  McKeen represents financial services industry clients in complex class actions and high-exposure individual actions, as well as enforcement actions, including those involving municipalities and state attorneys general.  She has extensive experience with matters involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the bankruptcy code.  McKeen joined the Firm in 2001 after receiving a J.D. from University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of the Managing Board of The Journal of Law and Politics.  McKeen received a B.A. from Brown University in 1998.

 

Matt D. Powers is a member of the Class Actions, Mass Torts, and Insurance Litigation Practice and resides in the Firm’s San Francisco office.  His practice emphasizes complex, multi-party litigation for businesses, with a focus on commercial litigation, products liability, and class action defense.  Powers is an authority on California’s Unfair Competition Law.  In 2001, he joined O’Melveny after completing a clerkship with the Honorable Will Garwood of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.  Powers received his law degree in 2000 from University of Texas School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Articles Editor of the Texas Law Review.  Powers received a B.A. from University of California, Berkeley in 1997.

 

Dawn Sestito is a member of the Business Trial and Litigation Practice and is resident in O’Melveny’s Los Angeles office.  She focuses on a wide range of commercial litigation, particularly matters involving energy and the environment.  Additionally, Sestito has experience in adversarial matters concerning natural resources, unfair business practices, employment issues, and contract disputes.  Sestito joined the Firm in 2001, following a clerkship with the Honorable George H. King of the US District Court for the Central District of California.  In 2000, she received a J.D. from University of California, Berkeley, School of Law and, in 1998, a B.A. from the University.

 

Eric C. Sibbitt is a member of the Corporate Finance/Capital Markets Practice and resides in the Firm’s San Francisco office.  He advises US and foreign investment banks, private equity funds, and private and governmental issuers on a wide range of complex corporate finance transactions.  Sibbitt also has experience in cross-border mergers, acquisitions, tender offers, distressed M&A, and joint ventures.  Sibbitt, who joined O'Melveny in 2005, received an L.L.M. from Kyushu University in 1998.  He serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Hastings College of the Law, where he teaches a course on law and business in Japan.  Sibbitt earned a J.D. in 1997 from Harvard University Law School and a B.A. from University of California, Berkeley in 1993.
