WASHINGTON, DC -- JANUARY 21, 2015 -- O’Melveny & Myers' Antitrust and Competition Practice was recognized as a Law360 Competition Practice Group of the Year in a January 20, 2015, feature.
Richard Parker, chair of the Firm’s Antitrust and Competition Practice, spoke with Law360 about the group’s accomplishments in 2014. “Our success is based on our teamwork,” Parker said in the article, adding “[w]e've been fortunate to be quite successful in the antitrust arena and it's because of the quality people we have.”
The profile provides an overview of the competition group’s major successes in 2014, including securing a “huge victory” for Samsung with the defeat of a class certification bid alleging the company participated in a price-fixing scheme (led by partners Ian Simmons and James Bo Pearl), steering US Airways as it closed its US$17 billion merger with American Airlines (led by Parker along with partners Henry Thumann and Kenneth O’Rourke), and guiding CoreLogic Inc. through the process of FTC approval of its US$661 million acquisition of several data business units (led by partners David Beddow and Courtney Dyer).
The feature also highlights the Firm’s distinguished track-record in dealing with the DOJ and the FTC. As the article reports, the antitrust team includes multiple members with significant agency experience and recently welcomed partner Edward “Ted” D. Hassi who rejoined O’Melveny after a tenure as chief trial counsel for the FTC's Bureau of Competition. “We have a strong reputation of doing high-quality work and the ability to get things done with government,” Parker said.
The addition of Hassi, along with other recent hires and promotions in the Antitrust and Competition Practice, demonstrate O’Melveny’s enduring commitment the group, Parker told Law360, adding “[a]ntitrust is one of the firm's premier practices and has been for years.”
