BRUSSELS ─ APRIL 06, 2011 - O'Melveny & Myers LLP has named Christian Riis-Madsen head of its Brussels office.  Riis-Madsen is member of the Firm's Antitrust and Competition Practice and focuses on EU competition and regulatory law.

In his seven years with the Firm, Riis-Madsen has built a stellar reputation in the EU legal community developing a proficient understanding of commercial issues and providing companies with practical advice. Chambers Global 2011 states that Riis-Madsen is “impressing clients with his pragmatic, client-focused attitude and strong attention to detail,” and the Legal 500 EMEA 2010 rankings cite clients recommending Christian’s ability to provide “excellent guidance, clearly explaining all risks associated with various courses of action while providing acceptable, fair competition suggestions that enable the business to move forward.”

Riis-Madsen has played an integral role in elevating the Brussels office from a budding offstart to the home of one of Europe’s preeminent antitrust and competition practices. His significant experience in technology industries involving fast evolving markets, IP rights, and complex trade platforms continue to help advance the office’s market-leading platform. Recently, Riis-Madsen's work with Advanced Micro Devices helped his client achieve a major win in the Intel case and secure the highest fine ever imposed by the European Commission.

“Christian has been recognized as a rising star in the antitrust community with the necessary skills to succeed as a leader, and we are fortunate to have him in this position,” said Riccardo Celli, Chair of the Firm's European Antitrust and Competition Practice and newly appointed member of the Firm's Policy Committee. “His innovative approach to problem-solving will guide the office as it continues to expand its reputation on the global stage.”

"I am honored for this opportunity and plan to forge ahead with the momentum Riccardo fostered in this office as he helped build it into a forerunner in the EU antitrust and competition community," said Riis-Madsen. "I look forward to collaborating even more closely with all of my partners and colleagues in the Brussels office and globally as we help our clients achieve their business goals."
