CENTURY CITY, CALIFORNIA -- MARCH 10, 2010 -- O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner Christopher Brearton has been named to Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily’s 2010 Forty Under 40 list recognizing the most promising young executives in sports business under the age of 40.

Brearton, the managing partner of O'Melveny’s Century City office and a member of the Entertainment, Sports, and Media Practice, was chosen for his achievements in the sports business industry.  He advises national and international sports organizations; motion picture studios; independent producers; financial institutions and investment funds; and television networks involved in transactions ranging from complex broadcast and other licensing arrangements, sponsorship agreements, the creation of strategic alliances, project financing, and industry-specific mergers and acquisitions.

In a profile of Brearton published in the March 8-14 issue of SportsBusiness Journal, clients attribute his success in negotiating billion-dollar transactions and agreements to his vast legal knowledge, effective communications style, and creative problem-solving skills. “He’s a very hands-on, proficient and pro-active lawyer, and he’s a very hands-on commercial negotiator,” said one sports client.

“It’s an honor to receive this award from SportsBusiness Journal,” Brearton said. “I am fortunate to work for some of the most dynamic clients in sports and to handle many of their most complex and important matters. This recognition and those rewarding experiences are made possible by the great platform I have as a member of the O’Melveny & Myers Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice and the great senior leadership within the group.”

Joseph Calabrese, Chair of both O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports, and Media Practice and its Southern California Transactions Practice, commented, “We are extremely proud of Chris. His membership on the Forty Under 40 list acknowledges not only the innovation he brings to his practice and the excellent service he provides to clients, but also the leadership he shows and the growing reputation he enjoys within the sports and entertainment industry.”

“Our Forty Under 40 program recognizes the very best young talent from all the different segments of the sports industry, from teams and leagues, to agencies and media, to sponsors and partners,” said SportsBusiness Journal/Daily Publisher Richard Weiss.  “This year’s class is another outstanding group of young men and women who are at the top of their game and who wield enormous influence in sports.”

This year’s Forty Under 40 members will be honored in Los Angeles during a black-tie ceremony on Thursday, March 18.
