LOS ANGELES, CA─ DECEMBER 8, 2010 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner Robert Willett, a litigator in the Firm's Los Angeles office for more than three decades and longtime member of Firm leadership, has been appointed to a judgeship in the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“I am honored that Governor Schwarzenegger has provided me the opportunity to serve the people of California as a judge of the distinguished Los Angeles Superior Court,” said Willett.

Willett earned a J.D. degree from the University California at Berkeley in 1974 and joined O'Melveny as an associate that same year. He was elected a partner in 1982.  As lead counsel in a variety of matters, Willett has led complex patent, intellectual property, trade secrets, trademark, antitrust, securities law, condemnation (inverse and direct condemnation) and professional liability cases, as well as class actions and shareholder derivative actions, mass tort/toxic contamination litigation, and many other commercial disputes.  His extensive trial experience includes jury and bench trials lasting from a few days to several months.

Over the years, he also has been a perennial presence within O’Melveny’s leadership ranks, serving in many capacities including Vice Chair, Vice Chair Emeritus, Values and Diversity Partner, and as Chair of the Partner Admissions Committee and as Chair of the Partner Compensation Committee.
