NEW YORKMay 5, 2014 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP is in the running for multiple honors at Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2014 Americas Women in Business Law Awards and 2014 Europe Women in Business Law Awards. The Firm garnered nominations for 10 awards in the Americas Women in Business Law Awards, including individual recognitions for partners Dawn Sestito and Lisa Barons Pensabene, and one in the Europe Women in Business Law Awards for Libby Savill.

The Americas Women in Business Law Awards acknowledge law firms and professional services firms for their efforts and achievements in helping women advance in the legal profession. They comprise both individual practice area awards, which recognize outstanding women lawyers in several practice areas, and law firm awards, which celebrate the best initiatives for gender diversity, innovation, minority women, mentoring, work-life balance, pro bono work, and talent management. Euromoney announced the nominees for this year's awards in International Financial Law Review earlier this month. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on June 5, 2014, in New York City. The Americas winners will be announced at a ceremony on June 5, 2014, in New York City, and the Europe winners will be announced June 18, 2014, in London.

In the individual awards category, Pensabene is nominated for the “Best in Patent” award. A partner in O’Melveny’s New York office and Head of Life Science Litigation, Pensabene focuses her practice on high stakes patent litigation in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. She is one of only 19 women patent lawyers in the US to be recognized in Euromoney’s “Women in Business Law Expert Guides 2013.”

Sestito is nominated as a "Rising Star" in Litigation. Sestito is a partner in O'Melveny's Los Angeles office and member of the Business Trial and Litigation Practice. In 2013 she was a lead contributor on groundbreaking litigation related to marriage equality, including United States v. Windsor, in which the US Supreme Court struck down the provision of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act defining marriage as between a man and a woman, and Sevcik v. Sandoval, representing eight same-sex couples challenging Nevada’s law banning marriage for same-sex couples.

Savill is nominated for “Best in Technology, Media, and Telecommunications.” In 2013, Savill advised Core Media on its first significant UK deal, its joint venture with BigMinded Entertainment for developing TV formats. She represented StudioCanal in a dispute with Universal Studios in connection with its joint venture financing of 44 Working Title films, which settled in December.

O’Melveny was awarded “Best International Mentoring Program” at Euromoney’s second annual Women in Business Law Awards in 2013, and is in the running for the award again this year. In addition, the Firm returns as a finalist for “Best Gender Diversity Initiative by International Firm,” “Most Innovative International Firm,” “Best International Firm for Diversity,” “Best International Mentoring Program,” “Best International Firm for Work-life Balance,” and “Best International Firm for Women in Business Law.” In line with the Firm’s strategy of cultivating diversity and inclusion, professional development, and flexibility as firmwide business imperatives, O’Melveny has introduced a number of progressive programs and initiatives that have made it a fixture of the Women in Business Law Awards shortlist. These include the workplace flexibility initiative CustOMMize, skill-building courses in critical communications competencies for women, and many professional coaching opportunities on topics ranging from business development to career advancement.

This year O’Melveny also is a contender for “Best International Firm for Pro Bono Work” in recognition of the wide range of community legal work undertaken at O’Melveny that touches issues impacting women in particular, such as domestic violence, denial of benefits, immigration, and assistance for low-income entrepreneurs.

Part of Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, Euromoney Legal Media Group comprises a wide range of legal publications including Managing Intellectual Property, International Financial Law Review, IFLR1000, International Tax Review, Expert Guides and Benchmark Litigation.
