SINGAPORE -- JUNE 3, 2011 -- O’Melveny & Myers LLP has been shortlisted for International Financial Law Review (IFLR)’s “India International Capital Markets Team of the Year” Award. The winners will be determined at the Awards ceremony on July 7, 2011, in Mumbai, India.

Among the Firm's many achievements relating to India, O'Melveny has in recent months played a key role in the Government of India’s major disinvestments from the Indian power sector.  In May 2011, O'Melveny acted as international counsel to Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, ICICI Securities, and JM Financial as underwriters in the US$1 billion further public offering of the equity shares of Power Finance Corporation Limited.   Previously in 2010, the Firm acted as international counsel to JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, ICICI Securities, and SBI Capital Markets in the US$1.7 billion further public offering of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited and as sole international counsel in the US$1.8 billion further public offering of NTPC Limited in which Citi, JP Morgan, Kotak, and ICICI Securities were underwriters.  The Firm also acted as sole international counsel in the US$ 260 million further public offering of The Shipping Corporation of India Limited, in which SBI Capital Markets, ICICI Securities, and IDFC Capital were underwriters.

Singapore partner David Makarechian commented: “It is a huge honor for our India Practice to gain international recognition from such a prestigious publication as IFLR. We have built an excellent team of top capital markets lawyers who are experienced in international offerings out of India.  Our team strives to give the highest level of service to our clients doing business in India. This recognition indicates that we are where we expected to be at this point of building our India practice, and we are very honored to be considered for this award.”

Pooja Sinha, lead counsel in the Firm's India capital markets team, added, "Given our relatively short history in this market compared to our competitors, the nomination is a reflection of the high quality execution that we bring to all our deals, however big or small".

"It's a pleasure to work with such a strong and experienced team,” said Singapore counsel Andrew Hutton. “It is especially gratifying that our clients and IFLR have recognized the quality of our work and the value we bring to transactions in India.”

IFLR is the industry’s trusted source for providing analysis and information on developments in financial markets law to in-house counsel and practitioners. Since 1982, IFLR has been providing unbiased and comprehensive news analysis on international deals, reports on legislative changes, practice issues, latest techniques, and best practice strategies.
