May 08, 2017FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles—May 8, 2017—O’Melveny was shortlisted in three categories for the Chambers Women in Law Awards: USA 2017, including Pioneering Pro Bono Program of the Year, Most Innovative Women’s Networking Group, and Future Leader - Gender Diversity.
The Pioneering Pro Bono Program of the Year award recognizes a firm’s dedication to promoting and increasing access to justice through pro bono services and bringing about positive changes to gender diversity and female groups. O’Melveny was honored for an international pro bono program addressing gender-based violence, reproductive rights, and immigration for female clients, as well as its instrumental role in forming the APBCo IMPACT (Involving More Pro Bono Attorneys in our Communities Together) Project. The national law firm collaboration has launched projects in 10 US cities, including a series of domestic violence legal clinics in Los Angeles.
The firm was recognized in the category of Most Innovative Women’s Networking Group, which celebrates a firm’s commitment to initiatives aimed at enhancing networking capabilities and professional leadership development for female lawyers, for its Women’s Leadership Academy. Every other year, the event brings together dozens of women partners, counsel, alumni, as well as women leaders from O’Melveny’s clients, for a day of intensive, leadership skills development and relationship building.
O’Melveny counsel Leah Godesky was also honored in the category of Future Leader - Gender Diversity for her work advancing gender diversity and inclusion both at the firm and in the legal world. This includes serving as co-head of the New York office’s Women’s Affinity Group (WAG), on pro bono cases involving women’s issues, and through an accomplished practice in a male-dominated field.
This is the fifth iteration of Chambers Women in Law Awards, which are intended to recognize the achievements of in-house and private practitioners, as well as firms and companies who have brought about improvements in gender equality, women’s advancement and inclusion in the legal profession. This year’s ceremony will be held at The Yale Club of New York City, on Thursday, June 15, 2017.
