NEWPORT BEACH ─ January 28, 2014 ─ As part of its firmwide commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession, O’Melveny & Myers LLP is supporting the Orange County Diversity Task Force in its networking event January 28, 2014, at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California. The event will draw more than 90 students to meet with representatives from 23 of the largest law firms in California in a fast-paced mixer designed to allow each student to meet several law firm representatives. The goal of the event and the task force is to increase the visibility of diverse law students to potential employers.
“Clients are seeking out more diverse trial and deal teams from their legal counsel, so it’s become a business imperative to increase diversity across all areas of law,” said Amy Laurendeau, hiring partner for O’Melveny’s Newport Beach office. “O’Melveny has always sought the best and the brightest lawyers from a wide cross-section of backgrounds and experience, so we are pleased to participate in this event.”
O’Melveny’s participation in the Orange County Diversity Task Force is just one small part of the firm’s commitment to diversity and mentorship. O’Melveny received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index and was named one of the 2013 Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers “50 Best Law Firms for Women.” The Firm’s mentoring program has earned top honors by Euromoney Legal Media Group in its 2013 Americas Women in Business Law Awards and a finalist nod by Chambers USA as part of its 2014 Chambers Women in Law awards. O’Melveny recently won a “Seal of Distinction” from WorldAtWork’s Alliance for Work-Life Progress for the innovative work-life and benefits programs.
