SILICON VALLEY ─ JUNE 3, 2014 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP is pleased to announce that Heather Meeker, a leading intellectual property transactions lawyer, is joining the Firm’s Silicon Valley office as a partner and member of the Technology Transactions Group.
Meeker focuses on intellectual property and technology transactions with a specialty in open source licensing requirements. She has represented clients ranging from some of the world’s largest software and technology companies to innovative, venture-backed start-ups in the software, communications, computer equipment, and medical device industries. Her wide-ranging experience includes advising clients on acquisitions, dispositions, and licensing of critical intellectual property assets; handling intellectual property aspects of M&A transactions; and counseling on strategic issues relating to open source business models, software copyrights and patents, and IP litigation.

Meeker has published several books, including a handbook on open source software licensing widely used by lawyers, engineers, and corporate executives in a variety of industries. She has been the recipient of many honors and awards, including The Recorder’s 2013 “Women Leaders Technology Law List,” Intellectual Asset Management magazine’s “IAM Patent 1000” list, and Chambers USA’s annual guide, which has ranked her highly for the past six years.
Meeker received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale University and her J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. Following law school, she clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. Meeker is a former adjunct professor at UC Hastings College of Law and UC Berkeley School of Law. Since 2006, she has been a member of the American Law Institute and the Bay Area’s Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, where she was an active participant in the organization’s Legal Services for Entrepreneurs project.
