SAN FRANCISCO -- OCTOBER 30, 2014 -- O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner David Almeling has been recognized in The National Law Journal’s inaugural list of “Intellectual Property Trailblazers & Pioneers,” which highlights 50 of the top intellectual property lawyers “who are raising the bar in intellectual property law.”

Almeling’s profile in the publication’s October 27, 2014, special supplement details how he spearheaded “the largest empirical analysis of trade secrets litigation ever published,” which “for the first time ever in a measurable way” answered many key questions in the field.  Almeling said that “we published our results,” “but we kept the underlying database as a firm resource that we have used to serve our clients.”  Almeling continued that “one major finding from our research was that trade secret litigation has doubled over each of the last few decades.”  He expects this trend to continue, fueled “by continued technological innovation and employee mobility and by a rise in international threats.”

National Law Journal publisher Tom Larranga said in a statement about the awards: “From private practice attorneys and general counsel to CEOs, entrepreneurs and regulators, this list offers a snapshot of success and extraordinary leadership in a closely-watched area critical to global innovation.”

Almeling specializes in both patent and trade secret litigation.  He is also a nationally recognized expert in those fields.  His second book on trade secret law, Trade Secret Law and Corporate Strategy, will be published by LexisNexis in early 2015.  Almeling resides in the Firm’s San Francisco office.
