LOS ANGELES, CA -- July 16, 2014 --
The Daily Journal has named O'Melveny & Myers LLP partners Apalla Chopra, Michael McGuinness, and Bob Siegel to the 2014 Top Labor and Employment list.

Chopra, the chair of O’Melveny’s firmwide Labor and Employment Practice, is recognized for both the running of the practice and her extensive work for clients. The article describes Chopra’s efforts “to pull apart the more than 300 plaintiffs in both the nationwide case and nine other mass actions” for DIRECTV, as well as her work on Title IX cases for universities.

McGuinness and Siegel both are recognized for representing airlines in their major labor disputes and union negotiations. McGuinness helped defeat a six-year-old case that skycaps brought against US Airways and United Airlines over a curbside baggage handling fee. The article also highlights his work in the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Mitchell vs. US Airways, getting the case dismissed because the “Airline Deregulation Act trumps the state laws at issue in the suit.”

Siegel details his work negotiating with the labor unions on behalf of US Airways in its groundbreaking merger with American Airlines. “It was a merger that was tied very much to advanced labor negotiations and labor strategy,” he said in the article. Siegel continues to work with the now joint company to iron out any labor issues that arise.

In addition, Lawdragon, in conjunction with Human Resource Executive (HRE) magazine, has named four O’Melveny lawyers to its The 2014 Guide to World-Class Employment Lawyers. Partners Eric Amdursky, Chopra, Jeff Kohn, and Siegel were included in the seventh annual guide, which was chosen from hundreds of law firm submissions and editorial research conducted over the past year.

Chopra was named to the Top 100 labor and employment lawyers nationwide; Kohn was recognized for his work in employee benefits and ERISA; Siegel was highlighted for his traditional labor work for clients; and Amdursky was named an “up and comer.”
