BRUSSELS -- December 11, 2015 -- O’Melveny & Myers LLP partner Christian Riis-Madsen has been recognized as one of the “top young antitrust lawyers in the world” by Global Competition Review in its annual 40 Under 40 listing. Riis-Madsen, managing partner of O’Melveny’s Brussels office, has significant experience in high-tech industries involving fast-evolving markets, IP rights, and complex trade patterns.

In the feature, Riis-Madsen comments on what is most appealing about competition law, “I like the interaction between law and business strategy that inevitably is part of competition law. Having to figure out what are the competitive drivers in semiconductors one day and banana imports the next day is what makes it exciting.”

The accomplished lawyer also commented on trends the industry is following. “Private enforcement is a new and growing area in Europe, which is becoming a significant consideration when dealing with behavioural and cartel cases,” Riis-Madsen said. In the next five years, “I think it will have expanded even more and we will start seeing more cases that are not simply follow-on claims. I also hope that we will have streamlined procedures for simple mergers even further.”
