LOS ANGELES — November 18, 2015 — In the 2015 edition of the “500 Leading Lawyers in America,” Lawdragon highlights O’Melveny & Myers LLP’s David Lash as one 32 “Rockstars” who are interviewed for the life-changing legal work they do on behalf of clients. Lash is the managing counsel of O’Melveny’s public interest and pro bono services, helping the pro bono program become one of the most acclaimed in the country.
“It’s cool to be famous and have your picture on the cover, but what’s most cool of all is touching people with your talent. We call it impact,” Lawdragon wrote to introduce the “Rockstars.”
In Lash’s interview, the publication calls him a “pioneer” in providing legal services to the under-represented, naming O’Melveny’s pro bono program as “one of the top programs in the country.”
“I have huge resources at my disposal,” Lash said about the impact O’Melveny’s pro bono program can have on communities. “The Firm is supportive and that allows me to cultivate a respectful approach to treating pro bono like any other legal work.”
O’Melveny, led by Lash, is a leading member of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCo), which is a coalition of more than 150 members from 100 different law firms with the goal of making substantive changes in the practice of pro bono nationwide. Vice President Joe Biden has met with the leaders of APBCo to discuss access to justice as a national priority.
The impact of APBCo “has been huge. We’ve gotten involved in policy work in response to the surge in cases coming out of the immigration detention centers,” Lash said in the article. “APBCo has launched a nationwide pro bono program in 10 cities around the country, creating a pro bono program on a scale that never before has occurred.”
